New Zealand’s health system aims to do better for the population groups who do not enjoy the same health as all New Zealanders. This group includes Māori. Improving the health of Māori will include tailored services, so they are more accessible and delivered in more culturally appropriate ways(1).
Te Rau Matatini seeks your support for the Te Iti me te Rahi Māori Health Workforce Survey. Please share the information in this letter widely along with the Te Iti me te Rahi Māori Health Workforce Survey link provided. This national survey will contribute to the improvement of Māori health and is being delivered by Te Rau Matatini from July – September 2018.
Te Iti me te Rahi Māori Health Workforce survey:
- builds on the knowledge gained through the Te Rau Matatini Profiling the Māori Health Workforce 2017;
- values all Māori who work in Non-Government Organisations, District Health Boards, Kaupapa Māori and Mainstream, Public and Private Health services as their contributions count towards influencing positive health outcomes.
Why is this survey necessary?
- The survey will provide a baseline for Māori Health Workforce. This survey is anticipated to be conducted every three years to track the progress of Māori health workforce initiatives and government commitment.
- The survey will provide the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the Māori Health Workforce and their needs.
Who can participate?
- We invite all paid Māori health staff working in service delivery in Non-Government Organisations, District Health Boards, Primary Health Organisations and Private Health Services (Māori & Mainstream).
- The survey will take no more than 10 minutes to complete.
- Participation is voluntary, but we aim for a response rate to provide results truly reflective of the breadth and depth of our Māori Health Workforce.

Survey results will be provided back to the sector for your use
Results will be reported back to our stakeholders which includes participating Registration Bodies, Tumu Whakarae (General Manager Māori), District Health Boards, Ngā Pou Mana, Māori Health professional groups and Non- Government Organisations.
The survey is complimentary to other surveys
Te Rau Matatini recognises that Te Iti me Te Rahi is one of several surveys in the field for Māori health staff this year. However, this survey will provide vital information that has not previously been collected about the Māori Health Workforce. We are in contact with other survey providers to ensure minimal crossover in content and questioning.

Wellington City Council and Regional Public Health are excited to announce that we will be hosting Hauora Unleashed Expo ki Pōneke 2018. The event will provide a unique opportunity for stallholders to promote their products and programmes, thereby making a social contribution to improving hauora outcomes for our communities. The event looks to achieve the following:
- Provide a fun and interactive environment where Māori services & providers come together to support hauora
- It is our intent that participants leave with practical skills and knowledge, along with avenues to support this – all of which will empower them to take ownership of their own hauora journey
- Highlight that there are #NoLimits on what hauora means
We believe the Māori Women’s Welfare League Inc. makes a huge positive contribution to Māori whānau throughout Aotearoa and would like to extend an invitation to participate in this event.

MIROMODA FASHION DESIGN Competition CEMENTS ITS MARK
Described as an artistic and cultural powerhouse, the Pataka Art & Museum venue has again proved it is a perfect fit for fashion entity, MIROMODA.
For the third consecutive year, models, fashion designers, makeup and hair apprentices crammed into Porirua’s Pataka Art & Museum on Saturday 30 June 2018, for the Miromoda Annual Fashion Design competition during the day, and the sold out Miromoda Runway show at night.
Boosted by a huge team of hair and makeup apprentices under the Hair Industry Training Organisation (HITO) the Pataka venue oozed creative glamour.
Fourteen short listed entrants faced a panel of judges, lead by Miromoda’s head judge, and NZ Fashion Week founder, Dame Pieter Stewart who was ably assisted by NZ Fashion Week Business Manager, Janey Evett, and Wellington based international Lucire fashion magazine publisher, Jack Yan.
Vying for a place in the coveted and big ticket Miromoda Showcase, as part of NZ Fashion Week, designers freely admit to being exhausted and in a state of nervous hype and excitement before facing the judges.
Miromoda the Indigenous Maori Fashion Apparel Board formed in 2008, debuted at NZ Fashion Week, with eight competition winners and runners up across four categories in 2009, will head to NZ Fashion Week at Auckland’s Viaduct for a ninth year, in late August.
The competition is well established in the tertiary community and draws entries from most, if not all, of New Zealand’s fashion schools. Founder Ata Te Kanawa credits the support of NZ Fashion Week founder Dame Pieter Stewart and sponsorship support from loyal supporters as “the catalyst for creating and maintaining the Miromoda platform that keeps taping into a surprisingly huge talent pool out there,” says Te Kanawa.
MIROMODA the Indigenous Maori Fashion Apparel Board (IMFAB) is pleased to announce the following designers who will showcase their collections at New Zealand Fashion Week as apart of the Miromoda Showcase.
